Start with what the quote actually states.
A communicated total can stand alone; itemized lines are optional. Each line has one of five states: fixed amount, range, included elsewhere, not applicable, or not specified. “Not specified” never becomes zero.
The unexplained difference is only calculated when the total and every line are known. If one line is still “not specified”, the reading says so instead of guessing.
Exact quotes stay exact.
Amounts are read as U.S. dollars (a dollar sign and thousands commas are accepted, at most two decimals) and calculated in whole cents. Three lines of $19.99 add up to exactly $59.97; nothing is rounded to the nearest ten dollars.
A range keeps its lower and upper bounds. A discount or credit is subtracted; a conditional core refund is shown on its own “after stated core refund” line and never lowers the quoted total.
Two quotes, line by line.
In comparison mode both quotes are laid out line by line and scope item by scope item, with the difference written in words: “Quote B is $84 higher”, “Quote A: $120 · Quote B: not specified”, “Same”, “Neither specifies”, “Only in Quote B”. A filter shows only the differences. The totals are compared separately: “Both quotes state the same total”, “Quote B is higher”, or, when the ranges overlap, “There is no certain numerical winner”. A lower total is never called better, cheaper in value or fair.
Every amount keeps its origin.
Copied or typed by you.
Loaded on purpose to try the tool; it stays labeled.
A demonstration you edited: still not your quote.
A figure from a named report or agency, shown with its year, sample and limits; never the price of your repair.
Special models keep their own logic.
Towing: base fee + max(0, total distance − included distance) × rate per mile + other fees. If other fees are not entered, the total is marked as excluding them; the mileage charge is rounded to the nearest cent and says so.
Maintenance: the services you list inside a horizon, plus an optional monthly reserve, divided by the number of months. Empty rows are ignored; a blank reserve is “not entered”, not $0; the monthly figure is rounded to the cent and says so.
Repair or replace: one as-is sale or trade-in value is used in both readings. Cash needed now compares the repair with the purchase plus fees minus that sale value. The cost over the horizon adds each path’s costs and subtracts the value you still hold at the end. Results are signed: the model never turns a negative modeled cost into zero, and it does not include interest, financing, insurance or taxes on a sale.
Saving, drafts and older dossiers.
Saved dossiers, drafts and exports stay in your browser (see Privacy). A dossier saved with an earlier version of a checklist is restored with its old lines and scope items kept as extra rows marked “earlier checklist”, so a restored total never changes silently.
What RepairWorth cannot know.
No vehicle, ZIP code, shop, warranty or parts-grade multiplier runs behind the scenes. Taxes are entered as written. No licensed price dataset is connected. Results are calculation aids, not repair, legal, tax or financial advice.
